Abstract
Through the analysis of historical evidence and a sample of photographs of industrial vestiges in the city of Santiago de Chile, this article proposes a theoretical exploration of how the traces of absences and political utopias affect the urban present through aesthetic and spatial elements. The Cordones Industriales (industrial belts) in the city of Santiago are discussed, a popular and workers' movement that organized sovereignty from the grassroots through
the seizure of industries during the government of President Salvador Allende (1970-1973). The exploration focuses on two maps and a series of photographs of these vestiges . The article uses a visual analysis of the photographs to conceptualize the aesthetic trace and negative geographies of political utopias. Finally, it puts into dialogue the relationship between memory and the impossibility of the processes of anastylosis in these industrial vestiges.
