This paper seeks for the recognition of the political philosophical content on the “cronicas mestizas” produced during the first step of colonization in New Spain by lettered Indians or cultural translators. Our goal is to analyze the several references to governance, justice, as well as the descriptions of places and customs, highlighting how in-between them a specific political philosophical content is built, and how it gathers and tensions the European and Indigenous cultural horizons. Therefore, we will focus on three works: Relacion de la ciudad y provincia de Texcoco by Juan Bautista Pomar, Historia de la conquista and Historia de la venida de los mexicanos y de otros pueblos by Cristobal del Castillo. Underlining the political philosophical content of each one, we may recognize the contexts of production as well as the horizons of reception. Ultimately, positing the historical and literary works through a political philosophical perspective, it is possible to re-think the meaning of these works in New Spain’s cultural world.
