Abstract

Present cultural manifestations of Mapuche people correspond to asymmetric cross-cultural practices with Western Chilean society. Within this context, Mapuche cultural manifestations aim at establishing an art with a distinct identity by implementing diverse strategies that emphasize the ancient Mapuche tradition. This situation is clearly refl ected in ÜI, a poetic literary work published by Adriana Paredes Pinda (LOM, 2005). Her poetic discourse displays ancestral languages and practices associated with the ritual and sacred tradition, thus reproducing the conditions of a "discourse of power".
