Abstract

The following work aims to carry out a historiographic review of the war of Chile against the Peru-Bolivian Confederation, analyze what were the main approaches, their sources and demonstrate the lack of work dedicated to studying the presence of the Chilean army while in Peru (1837-1839). Especially, considering that, although Chile won the victory in early 1839, the troops remained for a long time in Lima. Along with this review, some methodological suggestions are made on how to study this period considering that, behind this occupation, interesting background information can be obtained regarding the complex process of shaping national states.
